Central Truth
Every believer in Jesus Christ should be water baptized soon after coming to Him by faith. But Scripture never says that water saves, washes away sin, or applies the blood of Christ. The blood of Jesus Christ was shed for the remission of sins, and baptism is the believer’s public testimony that the blood has already done its work.
About This Message
Two sentences that belong together. Every Christian should be water baptized, and no Christian should believe that water baptism saves. In under three minutes this message shows from Scripture why both are true.
1. Saved first, then baptized
In Acts 10, Cornelius and his household believed the gospel, and the Holy Spirit fell on them while Peter was still preaching. Then Peter said, “Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?” (Acts 10:47). They were saved first. Then they were baptized. That is the biblical order, and it is why every believer should be baptized soon after coming to Jesus Christ by faith.
2. What I oppose
Any preaching or teaching that says water baptism saves you, washes away your sin, or applies the blood of Jesus to finish your salvation. No Scripture teaches that. Not one.
3. What Scripture teaches about the blood
Jesus Christ said His blood was “shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew 26:28). Paul says the same: “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Ephesians 1:7). Peter says we were redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:18–19). And heaven sings to the Lamb, “thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood” (Revelation 5:9). The blood of Jesus Christ is what remits sin. Water cannot do what only the blood can do.
The reason to be baptized is simple. Jesus Christ told us to, and a saved person obeys the Savior who saved him. Obedience follows salvation. It does not produce it. If you are born again, be water baptized, and do not delay it. If you are not born again, come to Jesus Christ in faith for the salvation of God, by faith in Him.
The Gospel, Stated Plainly
Everything I teach on this site rests on one message from Scripture. Read it in God’s own words from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 1:16, and Ephesians 2:8-9.
“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (KJV)
