Let me say something tonight that needs saying: the gospel is not American. It is not Western, it is not modern, and it does not belong to any flag. It has an Owner, and His name is not a country.

“…separated unto the gospel of God.” (Romans 1:1, KJV)

The gospel of God: the gospel of Christ (Mark 1:1). Scripture never once calls it the gospel of a people, a place, or a period. So no nation gets to edit it, dress it up in its own culture, or trim it to fit its comfort. It came from God, and it stays God’s.

One problem, every nation

And why is it the same everywhere? Because the disease is the same everywhere. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). Every man in every land is “dead in trespasses and sins… by nature the children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:1–3). And “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34): He does not grade one nation on a curve.

One cure, one price, one open door

So there is one cure, offered on one set of terms. “But God, who is rich in mercy… by grace are ye saved through faith… it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:4–8). The message never changes: “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures… he was buried… he rose again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). And the door is flung open to all: “there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:12–13). Heaven proves it: the redeemed come “out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9). So the American believer holds the very same gospel as the believer in Africa or Asia: same terms, same price, same blood. Glory to God.

“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (KJV)
