There is a sickness loose in our day, and Isaiah diagnosed it 2,700 years ago. It is not new, but it has rarely been this bold. Hear the prophet:
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness…” (Isaiah 5:20, KJV)
This is not confusion: it is inversion
Notice, child of God: this is not an honest mistake. It is a deliberate swap: calling evil “good” and good “evil,” trading darkness for light on purpose. That is why Isaiah pronounces a “woe” on it, not merely a correction. Men are not stumbling over the standard; they are flipping it because they do not want it.
Where it comes from: the carnal mind
And where does that come from? Paul tells you: “the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be” (Romans 8:7). Hear both words, not subject, and cannot be. The natural man is not just unwilling; he is unable: “the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God… neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14). You cannot educate that away. It is a heart problem, not a head problem.
So the cure is a new mind, not a new argument
Which means the only real cure is the new birth. In Christ you are set free from sin’s grip and given a renewed mind: “put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). And then discernment grows with use: the mature “by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14). You will not out-argue the Isaiah 5:20 syndrome, child of God, but the God who gives new hearts can heal it. Preach Christ, and pray for new eyes. Glory to God.

“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (KJV)
