If you keep trying to change your behavior without changing your thinking, you will wear yourself out and end up right back where you started. God does not work from the outside in, child of God. He starts with the mind.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2, KJV)
Two forces: the world presses in, the Word makes new
“Conformed” pictures being pressed into a mold: the world stamping its shape onto you. “Renewing” is a deep re-wiring of how you think, all the way down. Paul says the same in Ephesians: the lost walk “in the vanity of their mind” with “understanding darkened” (Ephesians 4:17–18), so “be renewed in the spirit of your mind” (Ephesians 4:23). This is not collecting more information: it is learning to read all of reality through God’s truth.
The world is always teaching you something
And do not think you are neutral. “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit… after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ” (Colossians 2:8). Every culture is quietly teaching you what to believe about God, money, sex, power, and identity. Wherever it contradicts Scripture, it has to go, and be replaced.
Scripture rebuilds; the Spirit empowers; the life follows
So what does the rebuilding? The Word: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17); it is “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction” (2 Timothy 3:16). And the Spirit makes it live in you, until “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). Bring “into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Change the thinking, and the living changes, because the fruit always grows from the root. Glory to God.
