Enduring by God’s Power
I am commanded to endure, but never by my own strength. God keeps me, Christ strengthens me, and the Holy Spirit empowers me to the end.
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”

Scripture commands me to endure, but it never teaches that I endure by my own strength. God says, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6). Paul says, “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Ephesians 6:10). My strength is not found in myself. It comes from the Lord.
First Peter 1:5 says believers “are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.” I do not keep myself saved through human determination. God keeps me by His power, working through the faith He sustains within me. Endurance does not earn salvation. It is the evidence and fruit of God’s preserving grace.
Jesus said that those who endure to the end will be saved (Matthew 10:22; 24:13; Mark 13:13). He was not teaching that human effort completes His saving work. Genuine believers continue because God strengthens, guards, corrects, and preserves them. We run with discipline (1 Corinthians 9:24–27), continue in faith (Galatians 5:7; Hebrews 3:6, 14), press toward the goal (Philippians 3:13–14), and refuse to draw back (Hebrews 10:35–39), but none of this is accomplished apart from God’s power.
Hebrews 12:1–2 tells me to run with endurance while “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” Jesus does not merely begin my faith and then leave me to finish it alone. He is both its Author and Finisher.
James 1:12 promises the crown of life to the one who endures temptation. Paul finished his course and kept the faith because the Lord stood with him and strengthened him (2 Timothy 4:7–8, 17). Christ commands His people to remain faithful unto death, hold fast what they have, and continue in obedience (Revelation 2:10, 26; 3:11). Yet the power to do so comes from Him.
The biblical truth is clear. I must endure, but I do not endure through my own might. I endure because God keeps me, Christ strengthens me, and the Holy Spirit empowers me. Endurance is not the cause of salvation. It is the continuing evidence that the saving power of God is at work within me.
“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
